Anthony’s contribution to the International Olympic Committee’s standing with international news agencies and media organisations cannot be overstated. He was the ‘go to’ person for the top echelon of global media management across all regions of the sporting world for new ideas and innovative solution in showcasing the competitive magic, excitement and drama that only the Olympic Games can deliver. He has a special sense and foresight for the needs of all the global players, and was always on the lookout for new and improving ways for journalists, photographers and television news producers to inspire their various audiences
Over the many years he worked with me in my role as Chair of the IOC Press Commission and Vice Chairman of the Beijing 2008 Coordination Commission, I greatly valued his constructive advice, his willingness to explore new ideas, his energy, his integrity and especially his loyalty
Kevan Gosper AO, First Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, FIFA Ethics Committee, World Athletics Ethics Committee, President Australian Olympic Committee, Inaugural Chairman of the Australian Institute of Sport, President of the Oceania National Olympic Committee, Chairman and CEO of Shell Australia, retired
Button Anthony had a significant impact on the Olympic movement by helping global news agencies and other media organizations open doors to new forms of coverage and extend the impact of the Olympics to millions of new followers. We also salute and thank Anthony for a spirited defense of human rights issues, including press access, gender equality as well as his forceful advocacy for the highest professional standards
Tom Curley, President and CEO of The Associated Press, retired
ButtonThe success of Beijing 2008 media operations and communications include the wisdom and dedication of Anthony Edgar
Jiang Xiaoyu, Executive Vice President of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Organizing Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee
ButtonHe appointed and directed our host broadcaster, Gravity Media, liaised directly with our domestic rights holder, Nine, and coordinated all broadcast operations with World Aquatics and Dentsu. He brought broadcast and sport presentation under one roof for a truly creative and collaborative delivery. His creative vision and innovation led to World Aquatics stating that the 2022 World Swimming Championships (25m) in Melbourne was their best host broadcast ever

Donna De Varona, Olympic Champion. USOC Board Member, Chairperson 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. Emmy Award-winning broadcaster with ABC Wide World of Sports. Founder with Billie Jean King of the Women's Sports Foundation. Served on Presidential Commissions under five US presidents
ButtonI believe there are three roles we can play in order to accomplish things - catalyst, influencer or decision-maker. Anthony Edgar has played all three in my work with him on gender equality within the Olympic Movement
Our first gender equality venture was in 2015 when I introduced him to the concept of applying a gender lens to the competition schedules for the Olympic and Winter Olympic Games. Anthony moved the idea forward, influencing key administrators within the International Olympic Committee to include gender as one of the decision-making criteria for the schedule creation. The results were swift. With Anthony's colleague, Associate Director of Winter Sports for the IOC, the 2018 Pyeong Chang Winter Games, Irina Gladkikh ensured there were gender equal sports competition on the Games schedule
Nancy Lee, Chef de Mission for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Executive Director of CBC Sport, Chief Operating Officer for Olympic Broadcasting Services Vancouver 2010
ButtonNo one has done more for enhancing and improving the image of sports photography than Anthony Edgar

How lucky were those of us who covered the Olympics from 2004 to the present day. Anthony Edgar modernized media operations, he was insanely collaborative, he created coverage opportunities that made athletes look better than they ever did, something they richly deserved, and he made it all fun to do
He brought us into his world in a way that no one else in a similar position does. They dictate the way things are, Anthony looked for experience people to help him make the decisions he needed to make
Gary Hershorn, Deputy Photo Director, ABC News. Global Editor, Sports Pictures, Reuters News Agency
Button Anthony has an enviable understanding of the Olympic movement, and working with him across multiple Games I am always impressed by his depth of knowledge and the great relationships he has built with contacts across the sports and media worlds. Unusually for someone with his pedigree, he is always open-minded and looking to innovate
Andrea Nelson, Chief Executive, ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2022, New Zealand. Head of Editorial Services and Chief Editor, London 2012
ButtonHe found me when I was a simple writer for my college paper. He has continued to support me, teach me and push me to become an ever-evolving version of myself. He is and will always be my guiding star
Sonali Prassad, Delhi, India. IOC Young Reporter, Knight Science Journalism Fellow MIT 2019-20, Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship 2016. Google News Lab Fellows 2016, Massachusetts Institute of Technology ‘MIT’, Columbia University
ButtonAnthony Edgar made life easier for a generation of media and NOCs who covered the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement. He cleared away obstacles in their way. He made access to athletes easier and still protective. His passion promoted storytelling: in printed words, in photographs and the extraordinary television vision to billions worldwide
Bob Condron, Director of Media Services, United States Olympic Committee and IOC Press Commission Member (1984-2011)
ButtonI think Anthony Edgar’s greatest legacy is the IOC Young Reporters program. It was his vision that brought it to life running in conjunction with the Youth Olympic Games since its inception in 2010. To watch so many of the Young Reporters grow and move on to highly successful careers, all the while with a deep appreciation of the Olympic movement, is a badge of honour he should wear proudly
Tracey Holmes, award winning sports broadcaster and journalist with 'The Ticket' for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)
ButtonThe facilities for photographers at the Olympic Games are the best to be found at any major sports competitions, because of Anthony Edgar. Because of his vision and understanding of the importance of press photography in driving event coverage, especially in this new digital era, he championed the power of the still images at the Olympic Games, both within the IOC and the Host City
The 'Best of the Olympic Games’ exhibition at the Olympic Museum, the award winning film 'One Shot: Photographing the Olympic Games’ and the establishment of OIS photo team for the Paralympic Games and Youth Olympic Games are but a few of his many successful projects
Bob Martin, Sports Illustrated. World Press Award winner. Chief Photographer Wimbledon, Sail GP, The Masters, OISphotos.com
ButtonBeginning with the Athens Olympics, Edgar brought order to the mobs of media that would form at the Games once a crisis erupted. In Athens, even before the Games began, Edgar had to deal with a media frenzy over a motorcycle crash involving Greece’s two biggest athletes. The crash occurred as the pair made a getaway from the Olympic Village to avoid drug testing
Two years later at the Turin Winter Olympics, Anthony faced media swarms after Italian police carried out raids on living quarters of Austrian athletes suspected of blood doping. Edgar could be a firm and imposing presence, asserting order over the pack of media nearly without fail
Ed Hula, Editor Around the Rings
ButtonHe has always devoted his time to solving problems faced by the media, particularly in light of the ever-increasing demands on journalists and photographers in this digital age
At every event Anthony has been helpful and supportive, providing the AIPS with the opportunity to seek the best solution for working journalists and photographers. When AIPS took the fight to the IOC for WiFi free of charge to all media attending the Olympic Games, Anthony listened carefully to our concerns and with his support WiFi was provided free of charge in all media areas for the first time at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. Rio 2016 and PyeongChang in 2018
Gianni Merlo, President, International Association of Sports Writers (AIPS) - La Gazzetta dello Sport
